FAQ’s
Below you will find my frequently asked questions. Please read this page fully before submitting a tattoo request.
Where are you located?
While bound in the mortal realm, The Wizard does his work at Goodkind Tattoo in Chicago, IL. It is his favorite place to be when not surfing the psychokinetic winds of the otherworldly realms.
Parking: There is free, magical no permit parking on Clybourne in front of the shop.
What method of payment do you take?
Credit, debit, and cash are all fine and acceptable. Should you find the scales of ancient wyrms on your travels, they are also valid currency when bartering The Wizard’s service at the local shop of Goodkind Tattoo in Chicago. For all other appointments outside of the local shop, the preferred method of payment is CASH but Venmo is accepted.
What are your rates?
Time is mostly an illusion of earthly masters. To this point, The Wizard prefers to work within portions of his day. These come in half-or whole-day sessions. A half-day session is four hours for $850. A whole day is eight hours for $1600. Should a session run longer than expected, the remainder applies at a rate of $200 for each additional hour. Smaller pieces will be quoted by hour with a TWO-hour minimum.
Do you do consultations?
In short, yes. However, most projects do not require a consultation. If you are feeling uneasy or reluctant about approaching a new project and feel that meeting with The Wizard will help, then this can of course be arranged.
Mostly, a digital-age exchange of information about concepts, references, and intentions will suffice.
Do you do cover-ups?
Yes, The Wizard does cover-ups. These always require an in-person consultation that will take around 30-45 minutes.
Do you tattoo people that are pregnant or nursing?
No, I do not tattoo anyone that is pregnant or nursing.
How long will you hold my appointment time without a deposit?
When you reach out into the aether with your request, The Wizard will respond with a potential time and date for your appointment. From there, you will have two days (48 hours) to confirm. Upon confirmation, you will have one day (24 hours) to send your deposit.
Once all of these rituals have been performed, you will receive confirmation from The Wizard. Until then, you do not have an appointment.
Deposits
Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERRABLE and go towards the agreed-upon design. Your deposit goes towards the drawing of the tattoo, securing the time slot, and will be deducted from the balance of the tattoo at your appointment. the deposit is applied on the day of your appointment (If multiple appointments are booked your deposit will be applied towards your last appointment). Please give as much notice as you can if you cannot make your appointment. Deposits may be forfeited with less than 7 days notice, rescheduling an appt more than once or if you are 20+ minutes late for your appt.
What if I don’t hear back from my booking form?
The Wizard and his team of familiars do their best to handle requests in a timely manner and they discuss and converse about all potential projects before responding. This process usually takes less than five days, but not always.
It is true that requests are sometimes lost or forgotten, but never intentionally. Please be patient. If more than two weeks have elapsed since your initial request, feel free to call out to The Wizard once more via email.
When do I get to see the design?
You will get a glance into The Wizard’s magic when you arrive for your appointment. This is for a few reasons, the most important of which is that The Wizard has a ton of drawings to do all the time in a specific order to best facilitate a great tattoo for all of his visitors. Doing a drawing earlier than its allotted time will mean that something else might not get the time it deserves. For the fairness of all and out of respect for the creative process, The Wizard presents all of his drawings on the day of the appointment.
Rest assured, this isn’t to punish you. The Wizard would never give you a tattoo that you didn’t want. So there will be time for small amendments or alterations of any drawing. If these become significant enough to warrant a redrawing of the design, your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
What can I do to prepare for my tattoo?
Eat food, drink water, and sleep well.
Nothing can better prepare you both mentally and physically like providing nourishment and rest for your body in advance of your visit. Do what makes your body feel comfortable and most at home.
Bring appropriate gear.
Whether it is cold or hot outside, The Wizard strives to maintain a comfortable climate within his workspace. If your journey will require you to remove one or more articles of clothing, consider bringing items to help keep you warm.
Consider the part of your body that The Wizard will be decorating. Wear clothing that won’t hinder access to that area and above all aim at being comfortable for a length of time.
Bring engaging materials
The Wizard’s challenge is an endurance race and it will be your job to sit still and remain calm. Some travelers prefer conversation. Others prefer to listen to a book or music through a personal device. If the latter is your choice, don’t forget to bring a charger and headphones.
Pack supplies
Expect to take several breaks. During these times, you will be allowed to eat a snack, drink a beverage, or use the restroom. If you need a break at any point during your time with The Wizard, let him know. He is a kind and understanding soul. No one can continue on forever without stopping for a break. Even The Wizard requires momentary respites from a long day’s work.
Can I apply numbing cream to the tattoo area before my appt?
Please do not use numbing cream without advising The Wizard, as this may affect the tattooing process. This isn’t a ban on such products, but a request that the topic is discussed if it is a concern for you.
Do you tip your tattoo artist?
In North America it is considered the norm to tip your tattoo artist based on their service, however is not mandatory. Tips are greatly appreciated and come in all forms (monetary, gift, etc). Monetary tips tend to follow the standard tip guide of anywhere between 15-25+%.
To The Wizard, the most important part of the tattooing process is the outcome of the tattoo itself. Just behind that is your satisfaction with your experience. Tipping, whether monetary or not, is one way of letting The Wizard know that everything is going well.
How do touch-up sessions work?
It is well-known that The Wizard’s tattoos tend to heal very well and without issue. However, nothing and no one is perfect. If needed, all tattoos may have one free touch-up within six months of their application. This does not include additional elements or changes to the original design.
